FIELD NOTES: The Toiletry “Go” Bag (Because Repacking Toiletries Every Trip Is Deeply Annoying)

The Situation

I used to unpack my toiletries after every trip… and then panic-pack them again before the next one.

Which somehow resulted in:

  • forgetting things

  • overpacking things

  • and owning fourteen tiny shampoos for no reason

The System

One dedicated toiletry bag.

Always stocked.
Always ready.
Adjusted slightly depending on trip/weather/activity… but mostly just grab and go.

Honestly, this may be one of my better systems.

What Actually Worked

  • Keeping travel sizes permanently packed

  • Refilling immediately after trips instead of “later”

  • Separate mini makeup + skincare systems

  • A bag that opens wide instead of dangling from a hotel towel hook like a bat

  • Multipurpose products earning their keep

  • Accepting that I do not need 11 lip products for a 4-day trip

What Didn’t / I’d Change

  • Waiting until the night before → chaos

  • Tiny hard-to-clean bottles → immediate rage

  • Packing aspirational products → never touched

  • Hanging bags (controversial) → not for me

Steal This

  • Build the bag once

  • Restock immediately after travel

  • Keep categories simple:

    • skincare

    • makeup

    • meds

    • hair

    • emergency nonsense

  • Leave room for trip-specific swaps

The Unofficial Formula

duplicates + organization + fewer decisions

Closing note

This isn’t glamorous.

It’s just one less thing to think about before a trip.

And honestly?
That’s luxury now.

Tiny systems. Massive payoff.
